What are the dog days of summer?

In modern times, the dog days of summer refer generally to July and August in the Northern Hemisphere—the hottest, muggiest, most miserable days of the year. However, the phrase has its origins in ancient Greece and Rome as a reference to the star Sirius, also known as “the Dog Star.” Sometime in July, Sirius aligns […]

A Look at Two of the Kentucky Derby’s Top Contenders

Sidney’s Candy is poised to make a great showing at the 2010 Kentucky Derby. He’ll enter the race after an exciting four-race winning streak, so it’s no wonder that Bodog puts his odds at 6/1 to win. His maiden race may have been on a dirt track, but all his graded stakes races have been run on synthetic tracks. His improvement and maturity has become startlingly apparent, thanks to wins in the Grade 2 San Vincente Stakes, the San Felipe Stakes, and the Grade 1

Voted Off The Island | Justin Bieber

Do we really need to say more? He looks like your penis- with a wig. He’s every snot nosed, rich kid you wanted to beat up in high school for no other reason than he just… deserved to be pummeled. Usually these types grow up to be cops. But back in them days they didn’t really have YouTube, or big time Hollywood brass types scouting Internet videos for snot nosed rich kids that can kinda, almost sing. I’m not sure I know which world is better. But I do know that I want to punch Justin Bieber.

I checked sbo.

Could there have been a greater invitation to buy the sbo pot? The heavyset kid quickly grabs a stack of twenty $5 chips and pushes it past the line. He was telling me he had a flush. I had to decide if he was telling the truth. Had I bet into the pot, I think he still might have thrown out a significant raise. I should have bet bigger before the river, but I didn’t. He bet $100 into a $180 pot and I had

History of Blackjack

Blackjack, also known as Twenty-one and Pontoon, is the most widely played casino bank game in the world. The ease of learning coupled with the slim house edge make Blackjack appealing to gamblers of all experiences.   The precursor of Blackjack was a game called simply “Twenty-one” although the exact origins of the game are unknown. A short story written between 1601 and 1602 by Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes contains the first known written reference of the game, in which the main characters are a couple of cheaters working in Seville who are experts in cheating at “veintiuna” which is Spanish for twenty-one.   In the story, the game was played with a Spanish deck of cards known as Baraja, that is without any tens in it and the object of the game was to reach 21 points without busting. Players could also count Aces as either 1 or 11 points, which is very similar to the Blackjack played now. The age of the book goes to show the game was played in Spain in the early 17th Century.   When the game of 21 was introduced in the United States of America, it was not very well received. Gamblers enjoyed the games already on offer and were reluctant to try this newcomer. In order to attract customers, gambling

Horseshoes, slothoki bad beats, tequila

By the end of the night I was half-drunk (maybe a little more) on tequila and playing the role of the house in a game of low-stakes blackjack in an effort to keep the people drunker than me from driving home. I had my $100 in winnings in my pocket and no fear of the sunrise. Which was a good thing, because the sunrise was coming on like a plump girl at closing time. Looking back at the past ten hours, it was a surprise that anybody survived. Of course, this was how the CJ IS LEAVING GOODBYE TOURNEY ended. To tell the whole story would be too frightening and might open up three TV stations to lawsuits. Instead, the highlights: * The full complement of 16 players was still in the game after about 30 minutes of play. The first all-in showdown: 66 vs. 66. Chopped pot and much screaming ensues. *A couple hours later, as two tables prepared to consolidate to one, there was significant grousing from Table 1. It appeared a hold’em neophyte–certified dead money–had been cleaning the clocks of his opponents. A couple people whispered he slothoki have hustled the room, but I knew better. The man had a horseshoe up his ass the size of South Carolina and it was going to carry him all

They considered the dog days to be dangerous times of drought, unrest, and bad luck, all of which could all lead to madness. That connotation is a bit dramatic, though, and it’s mostly been
