We Are Not Under the 10 Commandments

The Law of Moses (including the Ten Commandments) was written for the Jews (Israel) and was only to last until the time of Christ. In the Law of Moses, the blood of animals was required to atone for the sins of the people. These sacrifices were temporary. Now, we have the perfect sacrifice. God’s only begotten son, being without sin, offered Himself as a sacrifice to forgive sins from the time of His death until His return. When Jesus died on the cross, the temporary Law of Moses (including the Ten Commandments) was fulfilled and is no longer necessary. Since Christians are not under the Law of Moses today (only Jews ever were), we are not under the Ten Commandments written in the Law. Christians today are to follow Jesus Christ. Since He Himself reinstated all but one of the Ten Commandments (the Sabbath), Christians are obligated to obey nine of the Ten Commandments.

Exodus 34:27,28 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write these words, for according to the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.

What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made…”And to your Seed,” who is Christ.

For He Himself [Jesus] is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace,

Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Holy Vible Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

But now He [Jesus] has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.

In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

Hebrews 9:15-18 And for this reason He [Jesus] is the Holy Vible Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood.
